Include the suburb, what the tree is doing that made you ring, and anything about getting to it — a steep driveway, a narrow side gate, stairs down the back, a shared fence line. The more of that you put in, the more useful the call back is.
Photographs help enormously. One from a distance showing the whole tree and its surroundings, and one close up of whatever is worrying you, will usually get you a realistic range before anyone gets in a vehicle.
What happens next
Somebody rings back, asks a few questions, and books a time to look at it. The visit is free and there is no obligation. You get a written quote that says what is coming out, what happens to the timber and the brush, whether the stump is included, and whether council approval is needed and who is arranging it.
If the answer is that your tree does not need the work you rang about, you will be told that too.
Before you ring about council trees
If the tree is on the verge, in a park or on any other council land, it is not yours to arrange work on and no contractor should touch it. Those go directly to your council. The council tree overhang guide explains how to lodge that request and what to expect.

Frequently asked questions
What information should I have ready?
The address, roughly how many trees and what kind if you know, how close they are to the house, fence or power lines, and how a person would get to them — driveway, side gate width, stairs, slope. A couple of photographs from different angles saves a great deal of back and forth and often lets somebody give you a ballpark before they visit.
How quickly will someone call back?
Normal enquiries are returned within a business day. Emergencies — a tree on a roof, across a driveway or resting on a power service — should be phoned rather than emailed, because the form is not monitored overnight. After a widespread storm the whole region rings at once and there will be a queue.
Do you visit before quoting?
For anything beyond the simplest job, yes. A tree quoted from a photograph is a guess, and guesses either cost you money or get revised upwards on the day. Site visits are free, carry no obligation, and are the only way to see the access, the target zone and the condition of the tree properly.
